The science of beauty: the perfect female face?

I read somewhere that there us an actual science of beauty and it measures the different contours of the face and has symmetry etc in order to prove the perfect face of a person. I also read that a woman's perfect face is prominant eyes, high cheekbones, a small delicate nose and full lips.

What do you think of this? And what do you think constitutes as the perfect female features?

Just curious, thanks in advance x

Perfection is all in how you look at things- I don't think that perfection is really something that can be achieved even with science trying to say that it is. No one is perfect - someone is always better yet someone else is worse. Not to go all Mr. Rogers but really that is the truth. If we could all just learn to live with who we are then we would all be a lot happier. I know I am.

Honestly, "beauty is in the eyes of the beholder." I don't think beauty is really measurable depending on a few people's opinion. What may be beautiful to one person may be ugly to another. Everyone is different in their own way. Perhaps, with the symmetrical face and different contours of the face could make a person attractive, but you can't classify them as beautiful. Beauty is both on the inside and outside. It is dependent on each individual's judgment of the person.

If this were an exact science I think everyone would agree on who's the best looking woman in the world. But they don't.

I think there's some truth to what they say about big eyes and high cheek bones and such. But I think there's also a subjective element. Remember, beauty is a personal experience. We say something is beautiful because it invokes positive feelings in us when we look at it. Sometimes things can have meaning based on our experience with it, like the familiar face of someone we love or have loved, for example. The sight of a helicopter can be really beautiful if it means we get rescued from a flood.

There are various rules - proportion, childish features in women, symmetry - but people have also said that perfectly symmetrical faces are unreal and creepy. It's a bit like the waist-to-hip ratio for attractiveness in women (0.8, in case you were wandering).

In fact, faces made from an average of many faces are rated extraordinarily attract, so perfect ordinariness may itself be considered beautiful. This may also explain cultural differences in attraction.

I've heard of this before. I also remember that when my husband was taking portraiture classes he was taught that beauty had to do with symmetry and an averaging of features.

Personally I've always hated the idea of perfection. In my mind its the small distinguishing features that makes someone beautiful.

i don't think that it is possible to find "the perfect female/male face". every single person has different taste in what they think is attractive, or perfect, and the guy that i think is perfect looking, my best friend could think is ugly. it's pretty much a pointless search.

idk, but ive heard that too...its something to do with the golden ratio and what humans' brains are hardwired to find aesthetically pleasing...? i mean i guess that beauty sorta is in the eye of the beholder, but i think that humans are predispositioned to find those characteristics pleasing

i did some research cuz i was curious and i found this link, which i thought was rlly helpful...

That's probably about right, for me. Beauty is tough because it really is in the eye of the beholder, but if you look at most commonly renouned "beauties", they typically have those features.

supposedly the mona lisa is an example of the perfect face with the perfect ratio's (golden ratio) phi

I think that there are aspects that are universally considered attractive, although EVERYONE is different. We don't all look the same, and I think individuality is what makes someone beautiful.

There is not perfect face. Every single one is different. I could conduct a scientific search and declare that the perfect face has big eyes, a large nose, and thin tiny lips.

Whatever you find perfect only matters. Who says what's perfect? Is there actually an official combination?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Only God is perfect.

yes some say it is tied in with the golden ratio. its all about a perfectly balanced and proportioned face

people generally perceive symmetry in a favorable way

beauty signals fertility

It just takes one question.... Spit or swallow...
